International Lifesaving Federation


The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is the world authority for drowning prevention, lifesaving and lifesaving sport. ILS leads, supports and collaborates with national and international organisations engaged in drowning prevention, water safety, water rescue, lifesaving, lifeguarding and lifesaving sport.

By the official signing of the merging agreement at the jointly organised General Assembly in Leuven (Belgium) on 24 February 1993, the Fédération Internationale de Sauvetage Aquatique (FIS) and World Life Saving (WLS)were merged into a single, worldwide lifesaving organisation known as the International Life Saving Federation (ILS).
