ILS publish register of clubs worldwide

In late August 2018

To support the management of the Lifesaving World Championships, the ILS compiled (and released in late August 2018) a register that displays a list of clubs that are affiliated to its member federations that may participate at Lifesaving World Championships (LWC).

In additional, an interactive document displays all the Club Caps that have been notified to the ILS.

Caps of the World (3.5Mb) shows all national team cap colours, as well as all club team cap colours. The caps are organised first alphabetically by country, and subsequently by the main colour in the cap – Black, White, Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.

Prime Minister to be Patron of Lifesaving World Championships

The honourable Malcolm Turnbull Prime Minister has accepted the role of Patron to the Lifesaving World Championships, LWC 2018, to be held in Adelaide this November.

A Surf Lifesaver himself, Mr Turnbull said “As someone who has long been involved with the North Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club, I understand the importance of the work that our surf lifesavers undertake”.

The ILS Lifesaving World Championships are conducted every 2 years, showcasing excellence in lifesaving sports and rescue; attracting the most talented and skilled lifesaving athletes to compete for the title of World’s best. It is an opportunity to profile the Lifesaving Movement, the important role it plays as an emergency service and highlight our members’ contribution to community.

“We should all be grateful that the time we spend on the beach, whether by ourselves or with family is often under the watchful and dedicated eye of a Surf Lifesaver who has chosen to dedicate their time to water safety” said Mr Turnbull.

Executive Committee Chairman of LWC 2018, John Baker said “These Championships promise to be the biggest ever and the Prime Minister’s patronage reflects the stature of the event”.

“The Prime Minister has always been a big supporter of Surf Life Saving and it’s great to have him as our Patron for “the Worlds”” said Mr Baker.

Updates to Ocean Programmes

Please be advised that the National Team Ocean programme, for both Open and Youth, has been amended to take account of the two “showcase events” and to accommodate the elimination Oceanman/woman events. Also the Masters Ocean programme has been corrected – the Technical Officials briefing date was originally incorrect – it is now scheduled for the correct date on the 18th November.

Updated programmes have been uploaded to the Competition Programmes page.
