“Having grown up in and around the water I’ve been passionate about swimming and water sports my whole life and as a sports journalist can appreciate the athleticism and skill involved in the various disciplines of surf life saving. I now swim 2-3 times a week while training for triathlon which involves various forms of open water swimming in the ocean, lakes and rivers. I grew up in country Victoria swimming in the Murray River which comes with its inherent dangers and hence I am well aware of the importance of water safety. Any opportunity to promote learning to swim while incorporating it with world-class athletes and an event like the Life Saving World Championships is very exciting.”
